I live 50 minutes from the other Lancaster in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I try to see it fly once a year. Have been on the paddock after refueling with 100 lowlead gas&started. Epic. My girlfriend's uncle did 33 missions as a tailgunner in a Lancaster🇨🇦🇬🇧

My grandfather flew on Lancaster Mk.X's, and was the PFF Master-Bombardier when he was shot down during his 66th operational sortie, on his 26th birthday, while supporting breakout operations from the Normandy area in 1944. His plane took a hit on the port wing, between the #1 and #2 engines, disabling both, then a second hit in the fuselage just ahead of the tail, cutting all the controls to the tail. The second hit also trapped the tail-gunner in his turret. They turned out over the channel, most of the crew bailed out, the pilot and my grandfather remained on the plane to free the tail-gunner. They succeeded, with the pilot and my grandfather bailing out at about 800-feet. Six of the seven were rescued by Allied forces, the tail-gunner was captured. After the war, both the pilot and my grandfather received their bars to their DFC's for their last mission.

I live close enough to still get to see one of the only flying examples of the Lancaster left, the Mark X in Hamilton, ON. Nothing like the sound of four Merlin engines roaring overhead... can't even imagine what it would have been like to hear hundreds of them at once...

Saw one of these flying over me while I was on the highway and was almost unable to keep my eyes on the road. Looked it up later to find it was only one of two airworthy remaining in the world.

Lancaster wasn't in BoB so why not include other aircraft such as HALIFAX, Liberator, Mosquito, Bristol, Mustang etc etc?
