Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from "The Case Against Sugar" by Gary Taubes. Hope you enjoy!

Gary Taubes is an award-winning science journalist. He’s a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator in Health Policy Research at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. In this book, we take up the case against sugar as the primary suspect for ALL of the chronic diseases that are killing us. As the back cover says, Taubes “makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick.” Big Ideas we explore include: the prime suspect (= sugar), drug or food?, two theories (energy balance vs. metabolic theory), sugar as a chronic toxin (vs. acute), sugar as candy for cancer cells, and the big question: how little is too much?

I'm so amazed to have found this episode! I was listening to the book on audio, finding it super long and not easy to digest, when I thought, "I wish there was a Cliff Notes version" then "hey I wonder if Brian did one"... Come here, scroll only maybe 3 screens down and sure enough, BAM! Here it is. Brian, you are such a gem. Thank you for all that you do! Superstar! 😊

Hey Brian, love your videos, love your attitude. I have a strange question - what type of chalkboard / chalk do you use? I think the format of you standing in front of a large writable board is brilliant!
Thanks!

Great vid! Sugar is also highly addictive, as I'm currently discovering lol

Awesome summary! Another thing I think the author did well was to show the difficulty in testing this theory and discuss the opposition to this theory and reasons its super difficult to test. Knowing this makes people more aware of some of the pseudo science around nutrition. Another interesting point in the book was the cumulative generational effect of sugar or even just western diet- viz that the more generations of western diet the easier it is to get these diseases. He shows that with some of the Japanese families that came to the USA.

One of my favorite channels 👍. But stick to your knitting instead of lumping caffeine etc. at the end—off topic pontificating.

Trying hard to go low carb, at some point in the year I crave it whether it's in noodles or chocolate confection but then feel physiologically bad.
I'm adopting the Keto diet after few experimental diets these past 4years, each had a sort of carbs food in especially vegan ones. It's exhausting to see all our shops sell essentially refined and added sugar ! Takes twice the time to chase the perfect food.
Overall though moderate/high protein with adequate fats diets have been the best to regulate my weight (ectomesomorphic body so fast metabolism) but also my mood and this hunger feeling.
I'm only 22 though I feel like British food has violated my healthy habits ever since I've moved in .... The country of added sugar and !

Fantastic video and book! I have noticed that when I try to introduce fruit back into my diet, and although it’s natural and unprocessed sugar, it affects my energy and mood drastically in a negative way.

When you’re referring to sugar I’m not certain what you mean. I eat a lot of fruit in smoothies every day, so what about fructose?
I use stevia instead of sugar, so how does that fit in with this?

With sugar being so lethal, could this be why Sugar babes finally disbanded?
