Watch the How To Train Your Dragon teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action reimagining of the film that launched the franchise. How to Train Your Dragon stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Chief Stoick the Vast, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Nick Frost as Gobber. The film also stars Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.

As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.

How to Train Your Dragon is written, produced and directed by Dean DeBlois. It is also produced by three-time Oscar nominee Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land) and Emmy winner Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns). It is inspired by Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series.

How to Train Your Dragon opens in theaters on June 13, 2025.

Let me get this straight! They used, Gerard Butler, to play a live action Stoick the Vast, who's original voice was played by Gerard butler, as animated Stoick the Vast!

It looks like they took the animated movie and just redid it in live action frame for frame. I'm indifferent untill I actually see the final product. Let's hope it's as good.

Dragons look exactly like the original movie.

Noticed how they didn’t show Astrid. Almost like they are scared of backlash and how it would ruin the movie chances

The dragons just look exactly like the animated movie and the scenes are basicly 1:1 recreations. What is the point. The animated movies still hold up perfectly.

I just saw the cast for Astrid… I’m really glad they’re showing the rich diversity of 11th Century Medieval Scotland.

I mean, it looks good, but was this necessary? The animated one isn’t terribly old

Toothless literally looks exactly the same as he does in the original movie

I’m convinced that we’ve run out ideas for movies, so now we’re just remaking stuff that was successful.

Live action? It's only been 14 years since the CG movie came out.

Dreamworks finally jumped on the bandwagon of live-action remakes, hopefully this dragon doesn't stand up on 2 legs and dances to a legally-acceptable rendition if a nintendo ds pokemon song
