You need to lawyer up. Your lawyer should be going after them for this. No matter how good a job you'd do on your own to expose the builder's lawyer's misconduct, your own lawyer would do it better

When you’ve got a dishonest builder, you should expect a dishonest lawyer to be fighting for them. I’m no lawyer, however I do think doctoring any of the evidence could be considered an ethics violation. And could also be considered defamation. I’m sure your lawyer would know if you have a case on either count.

I'm a plumber from New York and a lot of the old school guys I worked with down in the city checked for gas leaks with a lighter. I shit you not. Have you put a lighter next to that leak.you would get about a 3-in flame that you could blow out. The same guys would touch 600 volts with their bare fingers. We were working at an industrial plant and Giant compressor either ran on 480 volts when it's on generator or 600 volts on line voltage. Instead of going for a meter, one of the old guys licked his fingers and slapped the contacts with his bare hand. "That's 480 for sure. 600 makes your entire hand numb. " Absolute mad lads.

It seems like theyre referring to the use of "is it gonna make the house fall apart?" which characterizes the builder as nonchalant and blatantly disregarding hazards. From the consistent obvious building faults that they have, it does seem like they dont care about the quality. I get why theyre upset but it doesnt validate their constant crying about roof/attic inspections. If theyre serious to the point that characterizing them as nonchalant to a gas leak is a problem, perhaps they should take structural issues more seriously.
