In this video, we are riding the 2003 Honda CR250R project bike along side Sam’s 2018 KTM 250XC. Believe it or not, Sam’s bike is the oldest bike in our group since most everything else we have our hands on are 2019 models. Yes, the Honda is 15 years older and yes its pretty much in stock form, but we wanted to test it out and see how it stacks up. The KTM actually has more hours on all the major components, since everything is new on the Honda.

Get some more seat time on the CR250. 90% rider 10% bike.

Your taking a motocross bike and comparing it to a newer trail bike... I dont understand. Apples to oranges. Now go to the track and test them both back together.

The comments are more entertaining than the video itself.

Kyle..I am a subscriber and 90% of the time I enjoy your vids but this is absolutely getting tiring with the oh so great KTMs and the Japanese bikes just suck! A-you are comparing one of the greatest 2 stroke fastest motocross bikes to a modern enduro bike (they are designed for completely different riding B-you have very little time in the cr saddle to get acclimatized to it compared to your 4 years of ktm riding.

All this proves is bad bike setup and lack of experience of bike setup.

I'd still have the honda any day. I'm getting so sick of all the KTM fanboys thinking that everything is inferior to there 11 thousand dollar bike. It's all about the rider man not the bike.

Well, i don't know why so many people are butt hurt about this. It's not a fair comparison but it IS a comparison that can give people an idea of how a typical rider will feel out on the trails on each of these bikes. The ktm makes 53 HP and the Honda probably makes about 45 HP and is on 15 year old suspension. That said, who cares? This is still a valid video showing the difference between the bikes out on the trail.

As someone who trail rides a 93 steel frame. A full redo of the suspension with enduro valving will fix all your issues. If that lectron is setup correctly you should be able to lug and gun that thing and whip it around corners. I feel like the CR needs to be pushed a little harder to get the best results. I love ALL cr's but I think 2003 is widely known as the troubled year too with balance issues and engine problems(mostly carb related which yours is gone) but something to look into. I think a lot of it after that is in your head.

Hey man I love the channel! One thing though is that the reason why I think you felt like a "fish out of water" is because the Honda did too, it's a track engineered bike. With that said you did good on it at only 6 seconds behind but take those 2 to the track and the cr will show it's true beauty. Anyways I enjoy your videos keep them coming! I'd love a track comparison

Are you going to put riding footage of when you went down to Arizona on youtube?

Kyle any chance of you getting your hands on a KTM from the same year as the Honda and then try and compare them again?

Do the ktms handle and corner better then the crs? I heard that the cr was the best turning dirt bike but the ktms are 20 years newer so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are better now

Set the sag at 98mm when standing on the CR and drop the forks 7 to 10mm. Put in some 38 fork springs and a 4.6 to 4.8 rear spring for off road. Re valve would go along ways.

With your custom graphics are they strictly for new bikes or do they do kits for 2002 ktm 300's also?

How did tyler do on this? Did you time him? I think you should have him ride.
And agree with the comments. The bike need to be close is comparison

Not surprised by the results. 15-16 year old mx bike, no suspension mods, no fww. Versus the latest version of the XC, a version that's had tons of R&D thrown at it since the CR was built. But interesting results none the less. I have a 2014 Beta 250rr, and this winter I picked up a good condition 2005 Rm250 that I'll be throwing an additional $2500 into to make it trail friendly and trail reliable. I'm looking forward to seeing how different the two will be.

Do you have the shinko Fattire on the front of the CR? That can limit turning. I'm a KTM fan boy but it is not a fare compare.

A video on rider weight deciding the 250 vs 300 choice would be interesting! For example I weigh 90kg, so the dealer recommends a 300. If I would've weighed 10kg less, he would recommend a 250. It would be interesting to see your opinion on that!

To make this a fair test, the honda needs set up better, 14oz flywheel weight, gnarly pipe, suspension set up for woods, and an 18" rear this your comparing apples to oranges...

You should do more old bike builds and comparisons
