It has been a really long time since I have played or thought about an MGS game, but I think the disclaimer may relate to the cold war themes that are going to be problematic considering the war in Ukraine. Many might see the Ukraine war to be a proxy war like the cold war ones. Just a thought.

Honestly the metal gear thing just feels weird.
It's pretty much as you said-while it's a little dated, there's not really anything about it that REALLY jumps out as anything horrific (at least from my memory).
This feels more like konami just being dicks about kojima again.

if i HAD to guess what might be "problematic" in the first 3 MGS games, i'd probably say the cold war stuff (because of the current war in ukraine), the "AI is secretly ruling the world" thing from MGS2 (because it's honestly pretty close to some actual current conspiracy theories), and some of the weird relationship stuff? (namely the whole arc with otacon's childhood trauma and how his sister is enamored with him, but maybe also the whole thing with vamp being involved with a former lover's daughter? oh, and the part where a disguised raiden gets found out because what's his name gropes him? actually there's a LOT of weird shit in MGS2 especially, now that i think about it...)

Konami doesn't give a damn about Kojima's vision, preserving it is either just pandering or an excuse to not clean it up (probably for Sony more than anyone else but SIE has been more lenient on the bigger publishers since they changed over from SECJ and changed their policies).

Also Capcom did the same thing to the MMBN Legacy collection but again, that was clearly just an excuse to not clean up the localization (especially for MMBN4 because that one is infamous for how poorly localized it was).

Seeing a disclaimer mention that removing the offensive content is the same as erasing their own blame and the responsibility therein is really nice and refreshing, it's a shame it's on an old warner bros cartoon and not something more relevant.

Especially considering we use a multipurpose platform where you cant even *say* words like racism, or suicide without getting instantly demonetized, removed from the algorithm, and possibly blocked or removed.

Maybe there's nothing "problematic" in the games, maybe there is. The problem is that what's problematic is in constant flux and decided on the fly. Maybe the "player discretion is advised" message is just be a general CYA situation for people that can't distinguish fiction from reality.

Maybe Its because of the LaLiLuLeLo that could be misinterpreted as a QAnon thing. Maybe because of the AI themes. Or maybe just the representation of women on those games
The more I think the more I realise there are some potential sensitive topics in the games that could be misread but none that we could really put a finger to being the cause.

Mafia 2 had a similar disclaimer when they did the remaster a couple of years back, but that's way more in your face as the portrayal of both women and asians in that game would never fly today

I'm not sure you're going to see anything in the MGS games that wouldn't be outlandish for any M rated game. Like there was that weird 'photo mode' thing that kind of let you be a creep, which might be weird, and maybe some of the dialogue, but I assume that's just a 'CYA' for anything anyone decides is now offensive 25 years later.

Fenyx rising could have been the game series were they try new things (which would be great for ubisoft) and personally the changes they wanted to make to the regular Ubisoft formula would have been great (if executed properly)
