Killer Coots?

Delta Waterfowl researchers captured some surprising video during our Manitoba canvasback/overwater nesting duck study: Coots harassing canvasbacks, destroying nests and attempting to attack ducklings. A member of the rail family (they’re not ducks), coots aren’t nearly as impactful on nesting waterfowl as some other predators, but they do cause predation to ducks.

Well that settles that. Next time my 11 year old son and I are duck hunting and Coots are paddling around the spread, I'll turn him loose.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and States better Start having a NO LIMIT on these Coots because I do not think People are shooting them or putting them in their Harvest Bags During the Season.. Better Start getting on this People before those Coots get out of Hand.

coots are evicted by grebes, they evicts ducks... In the netherlands since they stopped coot hunting there are less ducks, for sure. Many coots nowadays, and they will drown chicks passing through their turf. Grebes tried to kill a pasing grebe and when the grebe barely made it her chick was getting drowned by coots. Luckily it was the betterdiver.

that's some quality information, I just wish the damned things tasted any where near good.
any info on cooking them would be greatly appreciated aside from the "grill on cedar plank, then eat the plank" lol
