Thanks! "Reset Library" actually did the trick for me in X8. I didn't need to do anything else.

FWIW, I had the same problem as Matthew -- VideoStudio x8 wouldn't even open. I followed the link (below) for updating VS x8 and did all the relevant updates. The program now opens and works fine. So even if the instructions in the video did noting for me, the update link was exceedingly helpful. Thanks!

See if "run as administrator" solves your problem. Right click on the application and select that. If if works, go to the application's properties and check the box that says "run as administrator", then apply. I was having problems with W10 and VS X10 Ultimate. It would hang if loading a saved project and during the rendering process (half-way through the number of menus and before writing anything on the Blu-ray). Applying VS updates didn't solve the problem. VS X10 was installed on a new W10 machine. Removing updates was not a reasonable option. It had previously worked fine under W7. The "run as administrator" took care of the problem!

I am at work so unable to listen to your video yet but does your suggestion work with VideoStudio Ultimate x9 as well?  I purchased a new computer with Windows 10.  My x8 wouldn't work so instead of upgrading to x9 I purchased it whole.  It still crashes when I open instant templates or try to insert in video etc and most times boris and other fx effects disappear.  Corel support has been deleting the program and reinstalling and repairing but it doesn't last.  Then I looked at properties for x9 and it shows compatibility with Windows 7 8 and Vista but does not mention 10 yet Corel insists it is compatible.  Even my Microsoft message when the software crashes says it stopped working because it is incompatible.  I am so frustrated as I am losing clients as I cannot make my deadlines.

I found I had to remove Quicktime altogether. It's no longer supported on Windows anyway but thanks for putting me on the right track.

It's the Windows Update, uninstall the updates until it works. Or just go back to the earliest update you had and it will receive the problem. You just have to slowly reinstall the updates until you find out which one it is. Of course, I know you won't do that, so just never install the updates, ever. LOL

I am having problems uploading my son's videos to Youtube. Customer support is a joke. I have to keep asking them if they received my emails for I have 3 videos wating to be uploaded and it will not process. It's been almost a week and still no solution. I cannot believe they have not resolved my issue. Definitely never purchasing from them again.

Same problem. X8 crash.
I have a fast quadcore HP Workstation, tons of ram, and decent Nvidia Quadro card, so my computer is not the problem.
I also have Sony Vegas, Cyberlink PowerDirector, and Adobe Premier Elements installed. They run flawlessly.
I am not willing to fuck around with a stupid, snotty program that turns up its nose at my machine.
Fortunately, I only paid $40 off Ebay for this piece of garbage. I just wanted to see what it was all about. Now I know. It sucks bigtime. I uninstalled it, smashed the DVD's, and tossed it in the trash.
