War films come and go and some stay with us forever. This is just such a picture. Michael Caine is sent to the UK to kidnap Winston Churchill. Luckily GERRY CRAMPTON and the stunt boys are in charge of the action so whatever happens it'll be very exciting.

Rest in Peace Donald Sutherland. You were a fantastic actor in many great films including this fabulous movie The Eagle Has Landed. As an Irish man myself your portrayal of Liam Devlin was superb and the Irish accent was spot on. Thank you Donald for the memories. Your name will live on.

Nice Hancock reference slipped in there! As a geography student at the time it always annoyed/amused me that the German planners have a very obvious modern 1:50, 000 OS map of the Norfolk coast, and it would have been so easy to have used a one inch map instead as the metric ones hadn’t been out very long when the film was made. The harbour was actually Charlestown just outside St Austell in Cornwall. The film is worth a watch, and pretty close to the book, which subsequently had various sequels featuring the Devlin character

I met Jim Dowdall at a film fair in London about 10 years ago. He told me that he was one of the soldiers fireing at the americans and that HE was driving one of the jeeps. In fact, he claimed that he killed himself so to say...

Whenever they try a to show this film early evening they always cut out the bit out where Larry Hagman gets shot in the head and the blood comes down .

Great video for an excellent film. Many thanks. Regarding Gerry Crampton and his jumping flat for the waterwheel scene, I got the impression he was following the particular method of jumping from aircraft which German Paratroopers utilised during WW2 - it has a very flat, arms outstretched…

Just to correct you here - The first time you mention Jim Dowdall with the village attack, it is in fact Del Baker on one knee firing. And 2nd The canon roll was in fact driven by Alf Joint using a Black powder charged Canon Roll.

The scene in the church towards the end, all of the germans in a line. I always thought that was 4-5 stuntmen in close-up, but since you pass it, im guessing im wrong...

Never really keen on The Eagle has Landed - it just doesn't quite work and not keen on the Yanks saving the day! Nice reminder of Juggernaut with the picture of Andy Bradford - now that was a great movie! Hadn't realised it was as late as 1980 before she switched to stunts - last time I saw Juggernaut, I kept expecting him to get blown up or something!
