I believe your supposed to shake the mixture (after the 2nd bottle is added) vigorously for 1 full minute. You may have misread the instructions or gotten them confused with the ammonia test but the instructions read 1 minute.

FYI you want to flush out the testing tube with tap water after each use, and then I was taught to fill completely and pour back into your tank 3 times the testing tube before you test, and then fill to the line as you showed.

I thought the final shake in the vile is for a full minute, and to never hold your finger over the cap, and to wait 2-3 days after a water change

I noticed when I do the test I get a small red color around the line. But the rest of the tube is light orange. Should I be comparing the main color vs the small amount of red near the line?

After testing is finished I flush my vials out with distilled water and turn those vials over to dry them out.

Wow - that 125 musta had really high nitrates if after a 40% change you had deep red 60-80+ ppm. How often are you doing water changes?

It starts out at 6.0 and after letting the water run for 4 minutes it goes to 7.6

Hey dan I've been having issues with my tap water if I don't use the water out of my faucet that I use to fill my tanks the ph reads about 6.0 but if I let it run for about 3 to 4 minutes the ph reads 7.6 what the heck is going on. When the water sits for 24 hours after getting it to 7.6 it goes back to 6.0 I am wondering if it would be the pipes but it is at my workplace in a fairly new office complex so I doubt it's the pipes let me know what you think is going on do you think there is leaks into the soil under the building which is causing debris getting into the water I am just lost trying to figure it out

Geez, I shouldn't be asking this but I noticed this months ago and can no longer help myself. Dan....WHAT'S WITH YOUR THUMB NAIL BEING PURPLE?!?!? You secretly an aging goth who blasts Marilyn Manson and wanders around off camera wearing industrial looking leather clothing or something? O_O
