Sorry for the bad quality but something this old can't be salvaged, especially by an amateur like me (cf. the Alexander Graham Bell recording).

Out of what can be heard, I'd be interested in whether German speakers (native or otherwise) detect any sort of accent in him, given he lived (grew up) in a time before the German unification where strong regional accents must have been the norm(?).

Also, is the fact the announcer seems to say _-ruhe_ a phonetic quirk or is it actually a difference between Late Modern German and the more recent pronunciation and case system?
