Coleman Oak Point Big and Tall Sleeping Bag Review

The first review of the year and it is a new sleeping bag. When it comes to camping equipment the sleeping bag is ranked right up there next to a tent and campfire. So I felt it necessary to add a camping bag to my gear set.

The sleeping bag I got is a Colman Oak Point Big and Tall Sleeping bag.
Key features:
Big and Tall
The Oak Point is long enough for a 6' 4" man and gives you lots of room to be able to curl up to be warm.

No-Tie System
The is a Loop and hook system that is a lot easier to use than the shot elastic bands or carrying extra long shoe strings so your sleeping bag will stay rolled

Roll assist
This is a cleat and loop system that keeps one layer of your sleeping bag from squirting out ahead of the roll. There are 2 cleats and loops that are at the foot and about halfway up the bag. Just hook those together before rolling up and you have a neatly rolled sleeping bag.

Is meant for cooler weather?
Ok, this is where Coleman may have fallen short in my opinion. The Oak Point Sleeping Bag is rated to be comfortable in 30-50 degree weather. I am a fairly warm nature guy but I got pretty chilled. The temp outside dropped to 34 degrees and rose to 48. I slept in shorts and a tee shirt to see what I would need to wear to in the lower temps.

I wasn't shivering. So that could be a qualifier. Yet I do believe most people think that a sleeping bag is supposed to keep them "warm". I wasn't going to get hyperthermia in that temperature but you are not going to be snuggly. If you are wanting snuggle down warmth then use this bag at closer to 50 degrees range.

Yet if you are going to be in the lower range of the bags ability then you will want to have sweatpants and a sweatshirt on with socks.

Definitely would add a Sea to Summit Thermolite sleeping bag liner with this Coleman sleeping bag.
