There's a Grocery Outlet not far from that Safeway and you'll save a lot of money

That is like $7 where im at in Wisconsin. Store brand milk $2.79, eggs $2.09, and cheap bread is like $1.50. Kinda crazy but make way less lol

Safeway is so stupidly unnecessarily expensive. Go to Aldi and you can get all of this for half as much.

Keep in mind that someone working in SF is making 2x more than most people in the country. That’s why there is that low income consideration. California and especially the bay has micro inflation. Where there are more dollars in circulation there than most of the country but the currency has the same strength in the rest of the country. So someone in Ohio and California could both work in McDonalds but both have the same standard of living, just that the person in California has more money and thus it’s cheaper to go anywhere else in the US than it would be for anyone in the US to come into California

I make $120k a year, live in Pinole (12 miles from sfy) and we struggle paycheck to paycheck. Cost of living in the bay area is crazy.

Safeway is expensive anywhere but it helps alot to have a membership account and it’s free. There’s way cheaper stores in SF, try grocery outlet, Trader Joe’s or Costco

It is the rent that is unaffordable in San Francisco. Groceries more or less one can manage

I live in Oakland and I get different things from different stores, but to save money I usually hit up Grocery Outlet, Asian grocery stores, and Costco with occasional visits to Trader Joe’s and Safeway for certain items on sale/digital coupons. I have some friends that have just given up and shop at Whole Foods because it’s the same price as Safeway and Lucky now. Bay Area grocery shopping is wild.

You may have picked the most expensive version of eggs and milk. I was just in SF area at a Safeway and bought a dozen large eggs for $2.39 and a gallon of milk for $3.99.

Everyone’s talking about prices, but I can’t get past how he’s squishing the bread…hold it by the ties, Humphrey 😩 😋

There is a variety of grocery stores to choose from and Safeway is at the bottom of the list. You should’ve went to Foodco to save money.

Pretty reasonable considering cost of living and salary. If 105k is considered low income, then people making 50k paying half as much for the same groceries means affordability is about the same.

I love this $20 series! You should do ones for NYC too

You didn't need to get the organic eggs...guarantee there were several cheaper options to play out the scenario

So Safeway is like the Publix where I live and work. I work In GA and live in AL. Lactase free milk is like $5.99, eggs are about $5.99, and bread would be $3.49 and up unless I got it from the bakery or off brand. I usually shop at Walmart for certain items such as eggs, bread, and milk. For 60 eggs, it’s about $6, GV brand bread is less than $2, and milk is still going to run me $4.60 and up. I just paid nearly $270 at Walmart on groceries that didn’t include bread, milk, or eggs. 2 packages of meat, sour cream, coffee creamer, coffee, cheese, crackers, pretzels, a box of Mac n cheese, pickles, popsicles, 2 watermelons, 2 pineapples, the smallest tajin, hummus, cucumbers, carrots, tortilla chips, salsa, and 2 cans of soup. I got $8 in grill wood and 3 items of hair care for my baby. She has 3b curly hair.

Hmm. Whole milk (more expensive), organic cage free eggs, and Safeway. How about a more reasonable comparison?

if you go to 6th street you can get bread and eggs for a dollar from the people who are selling items they get free at the food bank.
