My best friend is Italian.. Growing up his mom made everything from scratch, and was constantly making TONS of food... She would keep me there for hours feeding me, talking, coffee, desert... She made the very best food I’ve ever had... Every single one of her Italian dishes were so good, it was hard to stop eating because it tasted so good... Food was a way of life for here... Everything revolved around food... I really miss those days...

Perfect video for lunchtime. Having grilled pork chops and Cuban rice from a place in Secaucus NJ called Goodfellas Deli. One of my favorite when I’m in the area.

Being Mexican and Italian, I grew up eating both, and to me, no other food compares. Lengua tacos and baked Ziti are my favorite dishes.

I lived in Catania, Sicilia for 3 years. In Sicilia they use alot of pistachios. Linguini with a pistachio sauce sprinkled with chopped pistachios is my favourite.

Mike you'll probably never read this but I still live in your old neighborhood of Williamsburg. I remember hearing about your Dad Sonny from when I was a kid here at my my Grandparents house. You're Italian American and Born again and I am the same. You made me laugh about your Grandma's meatballs it's the same with mine!! I too was brought up eating different foods thanks to my dad. Italian food was #1 BUT as an example my grandfather would wake me up on a Sunday morning early and we'd head to the lower east side to Gertels bakery. Fresh Pumpernickel Bread, Jewish cakes and pastries were bought for the family for breakfast. Grandpa was Sicilian born there! LOL. But that Sunday dinner was always the Sunday meat sauce with pasta or grandma's combo of Veal cutlet/eggplant Parm or ravioli etc. I cherish my heritage but like you I cherish my Lord Jesus even more. We were not wealthy but I was blessed beyond by the Lord with my childhood. As we age the lucky one's of us realize that there's nothing more important than Jesus and what an eternity we will have because of Him. And your political views are the same as mine. Rest assured I grew up knowing that you kept far away from the mob. Nothing good going on there but yet my Dad would romanticize it at times. I am writing this to you as a fellow Italian American, Williamsburg'er and most important brother in Christ. By the way my Great Grandfather was one of the co-founding members of the Fist Italian Baptist Church on Devoe St in Williamsburg. God Bless you brother and if not in ths life I'll look forward to seeing you in Heaven. God Bless you.

At 12 years of age I visited NYC with my mom and dad. We went to the Empire State Building observation deck. I saw the twin towers nearing completion. So many things we saw it was unbelievable for a young man to experience. But I did get to eat a fine Italian meal at Mama Leone’s. Only a short walk from our Ohio hotel. Best Italian food I ever had, Italian violin player wandered through the restaurant. Deserts were awesome. Sadly Mama’s closed forever but I have my memories.

The jailhouse meal scene in Goodfellas and The Godfather scene where Clemena is teaching Mike how to make spaghetti sauce both make me hungry every time I watch them!

Growing up Jewish my Momma would always make chicken soup with matzah balls, and sweet kugel, as well as meat balls for Passover and kosher jello (my great-aunt and bubbi’s recipes). In fact my momma still makes a wonderful meal during special holidays.
