Mastering the Minecraft ReplayMod - Part 1: Interpolation and Smooth Paths

The Minecraft ReplayMod is an incredibly powerful tool to make some amazing video shots of Minecraft... but it's sometimes hard to handle and some problems need to be worked around in order to get great-looking camera paths.

This tutorial series in 6 parts is going to explain and teach you some of the more advanced effects that I've been using to create some spectacular shots for my let's play series Hotbar Survival and Glass Core.

This is part 1 of a 6-part series:
- Part 1: Smooth paths and interpolation. We create an intro shot solving camera problems.
- Part 2: Re-using timelines. We create a complex series trailer for a MP series including player reveals and a logo fading into existence and also a "timelapse of timelapses" in one smooth motion.
- Part 3: Re-using timelines across replays. We create a smooth timelapse of several playthroughs of the same map and also stitch together two replays after a disconnect in an MP game.
- Part 4: Transposing timelines to another location. We make a player highlight with the player centered in one spot with the environment shifting around them.
- Part 5: ReplayMod and green screen techniques. We create a seemless Tardis entrance video using the same technique as my nether portal transition.
- Part 6: Advanced green screen techniques, players and how to deal with visible green screen blocks. We create an even more elaborate version of the end portal transition from Glass Core.

7 years later and this is still incredibly useful stuff. The mod hasn't changed much haha

Hi slice, I loved your video. I have a Portuguese Minecraft channel and I want to teach my subs how to use replaymod like you are doing. Can I quote you? My english isn't the best, but I hope you understand me...

16:02 I didn't quite understand the interpolation method you said. Can you write it down?

This is exactly what I was looking for. Such a clear explanation of every detail instead of some "basic time-lapse tutorial". Love it

I've never actually used replaymod before, but this tutorial was so helpful in explaining the basics that I probably should start haha!

Time for a new tutorial series! Want to learn how I made the portal transition shots from Glass Core, or just become an expert in making the best-looking camera paths you can? Then this is the series for you!

This is insane tutorial, this answered the 2 important questions that I had whilst trying to use replay mod: how to have linear/ static movement and also how to fix those unwanted loops and I have been through pain of trying to add more points just to make it worse, this is perfect solution,

THANK YOU very very very much, will surely watch the entire series, but now will jump right in replay mod and try out the new tech

this actually motivated me into learning interpolation as it is also used as "tweening" which is an animation method. I work in cinematography and it is really interesting to finally understand how all of this works. I can now as well make my minecraft cinematics

Thank you for this series! Could we get an updated series with the new Replay Mod features and options?

They added the catmull interpolator in the newer version of the replay mod, which is neat

Thank you, slicedlime. It is good to see where Replay Mod was and where it is today. I also like the idea of setting the keyframes a couple of seconds prior to the scene that you want to capture so that you can edit the stutters out in the video editing software. Also, making two different renders makes sense and then matching them up in Vegas to edit them both together. Thankfully though, with the current versions you can change the interpolations on the keyframes themselves.

This was extremely helpful! Watching you use it makes me realize that even my basic knowledge of replay mod is not so great😅😅 but thank you so much for this!!
