Just one week after becoming the first African-American principal dancer in American Ballet Theatre history, Misty Copeland announced another career milestone -- she would make her Broadway debut in the revival of “On The Town” on August 25th.

The 32-year-old dancer may be one of the top ballerinas on the planet, but she's never publicly sung in her life. With only two weeks of prep and one “put-in” rehearsal, she was scared.

“Stepping into this theater for the first time -- I felt nervous and it’s been a long time since I’ve really felt nervous about performing,” Copeland said. “Having one ‘put-in’ rehearsal with the full cast did not feel like enough before making my debut.”

Watch the video above to see Copeland’s journey through rehearsals until her opening night.

Amazing Grace.
I think the misty ballerina blessed with sultry look, husky voice and being very much brainy lady as she is.. would have made a splash at the MGM musicals in the 1940's and 1950's. The Vera-Ellen and Leslie Caron kind of dancer... But at least now Ms.
Copland has additionally a rare opportunity to air her thoughts and words of wisdom by means of literature on paper or/and by means of all the modern technology. MGM stars privatelly, behind the lots and stages
.. 70 ... 80 years ago had to stay silent or say the words memorized and written by MGM office staff or writers beforhand. Signum temporis...fortunately freedom of expression and freedom of speech are now as vital as the fresh air in our lungs. ❤

Yawn. Why are Americans so obsessed that she's black? Michaela De Prince is also a visibly ethnic (and beyond incredibly talented) artist of colour and the European press doesn't see her as the "coloured exception". Ugh!
