Well, I think that up and coming actress Cailee Spaeny would've been the perfect casting for the role of Ellie. On Reddit and elsewhere, people have made connections to her looks to the character. Honestly I just wish they gave Bella bangs that matched what Ellie had. It would at least look closer to the character.

Would have made sense to check out and test cailee spaeny to portray Ellie in s2.

In S1 I think Bella worked better due to her looking so young.

It probably also had to do with that a lot of like new viewers now associated Ellie with Bella and with all the press interviews and everything for s1 she became Ellie to many new people. This could also then be a risky choice to suddenly change the actor of the main character since the show also had been a huge success for HBO

Bella made Ellie very annoying and sometimes downright obnoxious, especially in second season. Also I can't get over how much she looks like an owl. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

there's a shot in Alien Romulus of Cailee hugging, face-to-face with Isabel Merced... it's a perfect shot, I paused it and it looks exaclty like Ellie and Dina so we do get them together as Last Of Us 2 - in Space
