"Anxiety is the cost of admission to a meaningful life." I really like that. It kinda reframes the whole thing, doesn't it?

My sister had severe anxiety about public speaking but confronted it directly through smaller speaking opportunities. Now she regularly presents confidently at work, proving exactly your point.

A friend who always took medication at the first sign of anxiety started practicing mindfulness instead. Her anxiety didn’t disappear, but she learned to navigate it better, transforming her daily experience. Goes to show we don't always need all these prescribed medicine to heal.

This was one of the most anxiety-provoking things I've ever done - and one of my most rewarding professional experiences. Truly grateful to TEDx Reno for the opportunity: Kaya and Bret you guys are the best! Thanks everyone for watching, David H. Rosmarin

Anxiety used to make me feel incredibly isolated because it always felt like I was failing at being calm or composed. Your talk showed me that anxiety isn't just universal but essential. When you described anxiety as "the cost of admission to a meaningful life, " it clicked: striving for meaningful experiences naturally involves uncertainty and vulnerability.

Thank you for articulating a healthier, more empowering perspective.

Hearing that modern children experience more anxiety than psychiatric patients decades ago was startling. It speaks volumes about how our societal expectations and misperceptions can intensify our struggles. Also, the emphasis on embracing discomfort (ugh), just like physical exercise, offers a practical and even compassionate way forward. Now it actually makes sense that by avoiding anxiety, we pretty much magnify it, whereas engaging with it helps with building resilience. Truly insightful talk David.

Brilliant insight. Anxiety isn't the enemy... AVOIDING it might just be the real issue.

I love this talk so much! I appreciate that Dr. R was vulnerable to share this subject - helping to break down the stigma and normalize anxiety for all of us.

The gym analogy around 6:47 was so effective. It really highlighted that emotional growth, just like physical strength, comes from embracing discomfort. I’ll definitely think about this differently next time anxiety hits.

Great job, David! This talk has made such a huge difference in my life and how I deal with anxiety when it comes up. Now I hear your voice reminding me that my anxiety is not going to kill me and I now am able to wait until it passes. Your work is life changing and I’m so thankful that you chose to share it on our TEDxReno stage!

Our approach to anxiety freaks us out. We feel anxiety is abnormal vs it is perfectly normal for most. Thanks for helping us understand that life is not anxiety free, it can't be. We need to look at it differently and understand it. There is no such thing as an anxiety free life but how we handle it matters. Thank you for these new ideas.

My friend Anne is super talented at singing, like seriously amazing. But the thought of performing in front of people makes her stomach churn. She's turned down so many opportunities, and it's a real shame. This talk makes me wonder if she could actually enjoy it more if she stopped trying to make the anxiety disappear and just went for it, butterflies and all.

DARE, the book, was probably more useful than any one thing I can point to
It's not a quick fix. Life experience is really key but if I were trying to help a young person Id try to get them to understand what's going on inside of them and it's not all bad
Im thankful I can mentor my kid when it comes to this. I grew up in the 80s and if adults had a clue about this they didn't share it with me. The absolute best advice they gave was "relax".
It wasn't very effective
Not only did I not know what was going on, not only did i not know how to handle it, but I didn't even know there was something TO know about
