When William Armstrong's PSA level numbers continually increased over the span of several years, he chose to ignore the numbers and not think about cancer. After seeing Stanford physicians Armstrong realized the possibility of prostate cancer had grown quite real and chose to take an aggressive approach to treat the cancer.

Hi William, I'm glad you took your own lead on this and ended up with a consultant who knew his stuff.

My husband had locally advanced PC and like you, he was diagnosed with targeted biopsies. Also like you, he chose to have surgery but when he went' down the normal route, he was told they would remove the entire prostate and there would be no nerve sparing. He was also told he would need 74 fractions of radio therapy.

We took time off to investigate other options and came across a surgeon who does 'intraoperative frozen section'. In other words, the pathology is done whilst still in surgery which means just the cancer can be removed and nothing more. My husband ended up having full nerve sparing and no need for RT.

I think people are often too willing to just believe what they are being told and don't take things further until they are diagnosed with something much more advanced. Men need to educate themselves about the prostate because just like ovarian cancer is a silent killer of women, PC is all too often the silent killer of men.

With your prostate removed your psa would be zero. The prostate produces the antigen and the is no other organ that produces psa. How many other types of cancer could a man have?
