I think what's most heartbreaking about this is that Yanky isn't necessarily a bad person, but is a part of the system that keeps her oppressed because of the environment he was raised in. It proves that people can do bad things to others with the best of intentions. I think he genuinely wanted to love her.

Interesting how she chose the wedding ceremony song sang only by the men - and managed to perform it so beautifully even though it was the first time she ever sang it out loud. Of course this is only a tv show and this part of the story is fiction, but makes me think of all the women out there who ever had to leave extreme conditions like hers and knew nothing but traumatic experiences, and still were able to use them as tools for their freedom. Beautifil message.

The woman holding back tears while filming the audition is all of us right now

She looks so shocked with herself in the end, like she didn't know she had that much power in her. Amazing singing and acting!

It's like she's simultaneously mourning her marriage/Hasidic life and abandoning them. A marriage blessing sung transgressively.

I feel like Yanky really saw her for the first time here.

So so emotional, I don’t understand a single word but there is no need too, she is expressing a lot!

I know she's singing the same chorus over and over again, but her vocal range, control, the way she puts so much emotion into each note is breathtakingly beautiful. Absolutely stunning I cry almost every single time.

This is the power of music. You don't understand the lyrics but you understand the emotions

I love how at the end she looked almost as shocked at her own power as everyone else. Whew! This show was so well done and this actress knocked it out of the park!

this song is sung under a jewish wedding canopy by cantors or rabbis. to hear a woman sing it is a treat not done in orthodox jewish circles-she does it better than I have ever heard it from men. also for me brings back painful memories of my former painful marriage!

The juxtaposition from the timid orthodox girl who wasn’t allowed to sing or speak to loudly to sing this song so fearlessly moved parts of my emotions I thought long dead. God I wish we knew if she got in!!

All the men in her family were amazing singers according to her grandmother and that gift was passed down to her. Such an amazing voice.

I feel bad for yankee. He just doesn’t know anything bc he’s been just as sheltered as her. He’s going to live the rest of his life knowing what a huge mistake he made, and made without any understanding at the time. Lots of regrets for him
