Keyzone Classic is my go to. I actually usually use 2 instances custom tweaked one with Yamaha Grand and one with a Steinway. Just be aware that some hosts apps or DAWs actually change the detune on it. I've found if it it's detuned you can put the knob to just above the second mark from the bottom left and it fixes it.

My we've come a long way since the early "sorta' kinda' sounds like a piano but not really" days. I used to say they'll never put a piano in a box, but the stuff now really isn't all that bad. Because of all the resonances and such, not to mention pedaling, it is difficult, but man they've come a long way. And these are free lol! I think I like the Keyzone, but it's close between the top 3. The first two did not seem to have as much resonance. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not quite as realistic. Just depends on what you are looking for. I like your reviewing style by the way. Been a sub for awhile now.

I personally use spitfire audio's Lab sample library for almost every song. Soft piano is a beautiful sounding piano that I definitely recommend at least trying out. There are also a ton of other free instruments in the Labs library

XLN Audio Addictive Keys free edition has most of the full edition functionality and it sounds awesome.

Nice work Mike - all pretty good examples as freebies (your #2 was my winner for sound but agree that your #1 has some great features for a freebie). Personally, I think the paid for versions just edge it and give you a bit more depth and range as well as control but some of the sampled ones take up some serious space and and can make a big dent on your wallet. Your first MIDI track is off EzKeys - I liked that so much I built an entire song around it - it's a great 70s power ballad riff.
