Barry McGuire talks about how the Eve of Destruction became a hit. "Adler says 'let's do somethin' else. I had the words of Eve in my back pocket. I pulled them out and smoothed out the wrinkles, hung it on the music stand."

Barry is a dear friend of mine, that I have known for years. I'm a drummer, and I was blessed when I got to back him at a Christian concert that had a number of groups that were playing. When I first heard "Eve Of Destruction" back in the 60's I loved it, but never thought in a million years that Barry & I would become good friends later on in life!

The fact that this masterpiece of an anthemic tune was released publicly and went straight to #1 on the charts after only one take in the studio and then forever changed the Constitution of the United States of America with regards to the national voting age in the country speaks volumes!

One of the most iconic songs ever.
And sadly - it's still relevant today.

Eve of destruction puts the finger spot on on what we who grew up during vietnam war and following terrorism during the 70's and early 80's was feeling.
Thank you Barry.

The key to "Eve of Destruction" was it's pure raw sound. Great story!

First song I ever learned to play on guitar - & it's still my favourite all-time record, 53 years later. The message will always be relevant in this hate-filled, twisted world.

Barry McGuire put so much feeling and passion into the lyrics. This is a true masterpiece. As relevant in '65 as it is now.

Barry's a cool guy, I had lunch with him 20 or so years ago. A real Gentleman with strong intellect & insight, and very amicable.

I grew up hearing Eve of Destruction. 60 seconds ago, on 12/4/21 I heard Eve 2012 for the first time. I never knew this existed. It’s just as incredible as the original and Barry’s voice will knock you over TWICE. Older artists always lose the strength in their voice, but not him. My kingdom to hear it again for the first time.

I was about 12 when this hit, it was so plain even a 12 year old kid could understand it, it was a monster hit and still stands up today. vIt's more than the news though Barry, we can hear you out feeling into this tune from deep deep inside "Hate your next door neighbor but don't forget to say grace"

Regarding the voting age, absolutely goddamn right. I was one of the first 18 year-olds to vote in the country. Thank you Barry!!
