I have the Sonos arc with Subwoofer gen 3 and 2 one SL for surround. Agree it is great for movies to give a great immersive surround effect! In case of songs if I compare to movies, it is not great but not bad either.

I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems a lot of movies and show nowadays have a lot of “whispering talk”. My wife always says turn it up I can’t hear what they’re saying. I do so and then something happens and blows us out of our seats. We have the Polk S2 and we keep it on the talk 3 setting but still it’s hard to hear them in certain parts. Any recommendations.

After owning both the Samsung q990 and the Sony hta7000 I've stuck with the Sony for the amazing sw5 optional sub and unmatched rear speaker quality of the SR5.
I play the demo for people when they come over and it never fails to put smiles on faces.

How does the JBL 9.1 compare to the Bar 1000? Do you have a recommendation between these 2?

I went with Sonos because you can change out the speakers over time. It gets expensive, but the sound has made it worth it so far.

I hardly ever see the JBL mentioned but it is excellent, the only drawback is the sound from above could be better (but that’s true with all the bounce sound off the ceiling soundbars). I would definitely recommend the extended warranty though because I did have issues with mine and have read about others that also did. With that said, when it works, it sounds great.

Sonos all the way. I own the sonos arc with 2 sonos sl speakers as surround. I love dolby atmos for music and movies, it really does sound amazing. Im looking to get a subwoofer. Not sure if ill get the sonos mini subwoofer or the subwoofer gen 3

Just bought the jbl 9.1 on sale Black Friday weekend

I've had several soundbars and surround sound package but it was only when I purchased a budget AVR and a pair of budget speakers that I realised what I was missing, stereo imaging, thumping bass besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime... surround speakers, subwoofers one can even get height speakers and have the full non virtual Dolby Atmos experience.

Remember movies are made up of 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals.
