Dream Theater - The Mirror/Lie

Because I couldn't find any videos of the two songs merged together (actually there is, but it sounds different, like it was meant for tabs) so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

This is a merging of two songs (The Mirror and Lie) from Dream Theater's 1993 released album, Awake.

The first time I learned that John is playing the exact same lick on guitar for the first minute, and its only MIKE thats changing his drum beat to change the feel of the song... I said "This is one of the most genius bands on the planet."

The concept of keeping that heavy chugged 7 string riff and switching between the 4/4 - 6/8 time signature is a piece of composing genius! just brilliant!

Their best album, indeed. These two songs blew my mind when I was 19 and I still get shivers when I listen to them.

Oh my god, I never noticed but they incorporated the melody from Space-Dye Vest into The Mirror, almost like a leitmotif of the album. That's so cool!

The way Moore and Petrucchi were so locked in on The Mirror, the way the guitars and keys play off each other and blend in those instrumental sections...some of the best stuff ever. Almost like an Emperor type dark metal symphony sound.

This album always does the trick for me. I'm so disappointed in recent DT albums, they just lack the brilliance and subtlety of their first few albums. I respect the hell out of DT but I can't get into their more recent stuff. Awake is a fucking masterpiece, this is back when the songwriting was original and fresh, LaBrie was a monster on vocals, and the technicality never got in the way of the songs.
