Hong Kong passed a long-delayed legislation to start charging residents for their household rubbish, beginning in 2023. Of the 5.67 million tonnes (6.2 million tons) of solid waste the city generated in 2019, only 29 per cent was recycled. The Post explains Hong Kong’s key waste management strategies, and how the city aims to clean up its garbage problem with a new waste-charging scheme.

when i came to almost 10 years ago. i was surprised by 2 things. people prefer to takeaway their food instead of eating in especially single person and air conditioning maintenance is not a thing. use it till it's broken and change a new one. from where I was born, people maintain their A/C and washing machine once every 2 years.

so advanced in waste management, whether for those that are destroyed or those that can be recycled. and most importantly, the government's awareness of waste management is highly prioritized. 👍

HK has always been about speed and convenience. Need to educate and change how people think about waste. Can also limit the types of packaging/plastics that can be used so they can be more easily identified and recycled.

I think your caption of "(6.6tons)" should be "6.6 million tons" instead. Thanks.

Palm is a horrible source of starch, and just a generally horrible introduction to the industrial food system.
