I've heard other gardeners say to leave the larger stems in the soil, too. The roots allow oxygen movement in the soil and help prevent soil compaction.

That tip you gave at the end really did change my outlook. Sometimes, I feel we get attached to something difficult for the ego.. I get that, but sadly, it takes wear on you season after season. Thanks for making me see it that way.
It's about enjoying yourself, not fighting yourself.

Love how you're doing work in the rain. Legitimate plant lover there

I really like how you mention about reflection of letting go of parts that exhaust you and keep parts that recharges you.

Love this video. The perspective of what energized you and focusing on that is incredibly mindful. Sowing intention for the growing season ahead is delightful. Thank you for sharing!

My chickens close the garden for me, they love it and so does the garden.

I love the reflection part! Some of us forget about reflecting after doing some job.

After several years of trying to grow the most possible, I have rebuilt my raised beds, downsizing them to contain the best soil and repositioned them for better sun exposure. Now I can concentrate on just my most productive choices, trying to really enjoy the growing season. Maybe I'll return to larger volumes sometime in the future.

Rotating your crops/plants can be very helpful too. 😊🙏💙🦘

I'm going to seed my beds with snow peas and other cold tolerant legumes.
Looks pretty and ends up as insitu mulch in spring.

Thanks. There's all kinds of advice for planning, planting and growing, but not a lot for closing things for the winter.

I love this! This year was the first time in a decade that I planted a serious garden, and it was awesome. But there were some things I'd change, and some things I overlooked. This video gives me a fresh perspective on how to think about all of that, and what to do before the snow hits.

Add a sprinkling of blood and bone meal or poultry manure over the compost and before putting the fall leaves down. This will offset nitrogen loss caused by the leaves in the process of breaking-down. Best wishes to all natural gardeners.

Homegrown watermelons are the sweetest and best!

What exhausted me was growing Pumpkins in a square foot garden. Definitely doing that down in the new Grocery Row Garden this year.

1 - live in Florida so that you NEVER have to close your garden. 2 - remove old plants and add them to your compost, 3 - add a new layer of compost to your garden and work it in so that you can plant the next season of vegetables, herbs, etc.

Very interesting to know! Does this exercise of closing your garden for winter also apply for gardens in 365 days in the tropics? Do let me know, and thanks. Do continue to share this knowledge of gardens 😊

Great advice. Be sure to chop the leaves up with the lawn mower before placing on the garden if you're planning on using them for mulch in the spring.

Love the idea of letting it go of the thing that did not make me happy instead of putting more energy into it. 😊
