COVID-19: The UK's longest known Coronavirus patient has died

One of the first patients diagnosed with coronavirus, Jason Kelk, has died after suffering from long COVID for 15 months.

Mr. Kelk had asked his doctors the day before his death to end his treatment.

His wife Sue spoke with Sky's Frazer Maude.

Jason was really well known, loved, and respected in the retrogaming and demo scene. He developed/contributed to many demos and games in recent years for old 8-bit computers, albeit mostly for the Commodore 64. Rest in peace, Jason.

Whilst the 500 cancer patients whom die every day are still being ignored

It is important to note he also had underlying health conditions like Gastroparesis in his stomach and had suffered a cardiac arrest (heart attack) so do not be alarmed by the report - he was suffering daily and decided to refuse to be placed back on a ventilator and submit himself to the pain and torment anylonger as was his right! R.I.P.

My Grandad was the same when he went to hospital with a fall but deteriorated with cancer and a number of other things. Sometimes, although sad, it's best to let them go and rest peacefully. It was his wish and he made himself fall more and more ill because nurses urged him to get better but he was sick of living. He refused to eat. My Grandma was never the same after losing her soulmate.

I lost my husband two years ago after another two years of struggle with cancer. I know exactly what the lady means -- sometimes, the person just doesn't want to go on and it would be cruel to keep them going. I know my husband took that choice when it came to it.

It's painful and I'm sure it will be hard and lonely for Mrs Kelk but we're all here for her in spirit.

Let’s reflect a moment also, for the 40% more people who have had to die at home, rather than die alone surrounded by strangers, plus all the people waiting on pain as hostpitals are running slow, and all the people with possible cancers that can’t get to see a consultant,

What a trooper. He must have had a big heart to hang on that long for the people he loved. Also sidenote I haven’t met an IT tech anywhere that wasn’t a standup bloke? Something about the profession attracts smart, down to earth, hands on people and truly a pleasure to get to know.
