A brilliant interpretation of the Academy Award song "Over the Rainbow".
An almost sacrilegious audience cough right before the last melody note was digitally removed.
Performed in Tokyo 1984

This is one of the most moving things I’ve seen. And his performance is not theatrics, it’s absolute delight at the sound of music. Anyone who loves music, especially the piano, knows this beautiful feeling.

Jazz is like an ocean. You dive in and you find gems in the sand and the waves are warm as it crashes over you, never hurting, always caressing.

We all can hide behind the fast notes, tricks, but to play this way, it takes master skills, and an honest noble heart.
For me, this is the best interpretation ever, at least for this song. I’ve listened to this a thousand times, and never enough. His classical training comes out bursting through every fiber of his body, caressing every note with sincerity, humility and vulnerability. Which is pretty much what good playing is all about...

Keith Jarrett is a world-class artist, which is why I still believe that even if a computer can emulate art at the level that Jarrett does, it will have the same effect on no one's soul because it will be something manufactured. In terms of art, brands will be created and their commercialization will be disputed between machines without leaving more than a temporary use value. That is why Gustav Kilmt, Jan van Eyck, Pablo Picasso, Mozart, Back, Tchaikovsky, Chick Corea and hundreds more that I don't remember now, will be immortal at a level that a robot will never reach.

I played this for my sister before she died. It still haunts me after all these years. Thank you. God Bless. 😂

I’ll never forget stumbling across this performance circa 2008. I was a high schooler about to join music school. I had never heard anything so hauntingly beautiful. Jarrett masterfully dissolves the line between simple and complex harmony until the pure essence of the music is all that remains. This is my first time revisiting it in many years. It feels like saying hello to an old friend.

When a musician, an artist, is one with his/her instrument and allows the music to be center stage… we are changed. This is the brilliance of Keith Jarrett. Thank you is completely inadequate.

I've listened to this performance so many times, and feel anguished that I may only click 'like' once.

Keith Jarrett is the most sensitive, free and musical performer I have ever heard. His Köln concert recording made me want to play the piano, which became a pivotal point in my Life for 45 years ! Thank you Mr Jarrett.

This moment of pure musical ecstasy should be compulsory study in every music school in the world. Keith Jarrett evolves in a world apart as a pianist and composer and has left an indelible mark on the minds of many musicians. As a flutist and pianist, I can simply be in awe of such incomparable talent.

There will never be Artificial Intelligence that can create this, much less overcome it. Every time I listen to this Genius improvising I verify that life is not absurd.

Me and my cousin flew to the Montreal Jazz Festival a few years ago to see him live... One of the highlights of my entire life.

So incredibly expressive. I come back to this often and it never gets old. With all the bad news these days, it's good to remember we have this...humans capable of such beauty.
