The Turkish shooter who got silver (and went viral for shooting with next to no special equipment) was 51 during the 2024 olympics

Artistic swimmers (formerly Synchronized Swimming) often don’t get to Olympic levels until their late 20s.

The oldest Olympic gold winner was like 70-80yo something like that, he just entered a rifle competition for fun and won. xD

The oldest person who competed in the Olympics this year was 65 and in dressage. A 51 year old competed in the Skateboarding. A 41 year old in the Breakdancing. Bryony Page (who won gold for GB in trampolining) is 33.

Simone Biles is 27 and still very much in her prime, I have no doubts that she will still be top tier well into her 30s and 40s

As a teen, my thoughts were more circling the fact that some of those athletes were going to be suffering later in life. But that thought process was formed by people around me as a kid.

And then you have my mom who’s like: “These people are getting paid to run in a circle-“

Nah, in your 20's you go "Australia no... that's not breakdancing, please stop, dear god"

As someone who is 18, finding out that there are Olympians my age was mind blowing to me because I always thought most would’ve been older than that.

Then you realise that a lot of them have nothing to go home and do after because to compete in the Olympics you have to sacrifice your entire life to compete.

41 year old Ayumi Fukushima won bronze at Paris 2024. It was for breakdancing, but Ayumi has actual skills and athletic talent.

As a 28 year old, my thoughts are more along the lines of, "jfc why are we making these children compete at such an intense level?!".
Idk I've never talked to a child Olympian but I can't see that amount of pressure to perform to be healthy. I just worry there are kids doing it out of obligation rather than passion

I was going between the sports while waiting for a hockey match. Found an Aussie diver aged 17. I was shocked to find that we were around the same age and still in grade 12

that is sooo true tho. like I’m 16 and that Chinese diver who’s also 16 is gaining all her life profits in one singular Olympics

I had a different experience watching the Olympics this year. I was surprised by how many athletes were between 35-50. As someone who’s just entering their 30s, it made me want to pick up a high intensity sport again and see where I could be in a couple of years time.
