Well That Could Have Gone Better (Netflix's She-ra Season 4 Episode 13 Review)

Glimmer finally set the Heart of Etheria off. Obviously, it doesn't go well and Adora is forced to break the Sword of Protection to stop the weapon from destroying Etheria. But to add insult to injury, the energy signature the weapon gives off is how Horde Prime finds the planet. So not only did Glimmer ignore all of the warning signs she's also responsible for the big bad showing up in the end. Nice one, Glimmer. Oh well. Time to get to season 5. Sorry, we fell so behind but we'll play catch up to get back on track.

I feel like Adora isn't a protagonist at all. It's almost always about Glimmer or Catra. I do think characters that aren't the protagonist should also get to he in the spotlight, but here Adora kinda feels like a side character. That's just my opinion tho

I'm not sure why the writers want us to feel bad for people that keep making everything worse for themselves despite they being given many chances to do the right thing.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting tired of Catra's "broken inside" storyline? Even mental anguish gets boring if you drag it out, Avatar managed to make it work with Azula because it only lasted 1 episode! Someone tell the writers if you rip something off, do it right!

With the way Glimmer acts: gas lighting people, spitting on her mom's legacy (let alone not caring about her) by not acting like the queen she should be, would rather destroy the world than admit to being wrong, lets dangerous people go if it gets her what she wants, aligns herself with abusers and doesn't really stop them when they're torturing people, runs off on her own without thinking, etc. She's got all the makings of a Ravenloft Darklord (look it up on TV TRopes) than the hero Stevenson and crew think she is.

Granted, I will take it back if Glimmer really works her ass off and owes up to what she's done. Something tells me that they'll play it off as "she didn't know any better".

I really dread the "Steven Universe ending" for this series, where 3 beings who are million times worse than Hitler were redeemed because they didn't know any better.
Being abused does not excuse causing abuse and beating the one who abused you won't redeem you of the actions you did onto others. And this is precisely what I think next season will do.

I just started watching the 80s She Ra. As dated as it is, the show is not bad. I watched many retro shows growing up. I want to form my own opinion of She Ra. I still love M and J for their perspectives. I will not spoil anything. Everyone has their own opinions. Stay safe everyone.

Its kind of weird. The plot and characters sound really really interesting and cool.

The problem is, if I'm hearing this right, the creators have to make the characters... dumber... in order to get to these plot points.

The only character I didnt care for was Catra.

I was going to save this comment for the series finale, but since there’s a season 5 I can’t wait any longer. We all know that Avatar TLA was an inspiration for this show, yet Noel Stevenson clearly hasn’t seen the chart that Aaron Ehasz made talking about characters. In that chart, he says that great characters should be dimensional, fascinating, compelling, and believable, and “false gods” are likable, relatable, and sympathetic. While the latter traits sound innocent and can be ok, they’re often misused and can ruin storytelling. It’s just ironic how this She-Ra was inspired by TLA, yet kept with the modern style of storytelling of themes over story to a severe level.

And what’s even worse is that I’ve been seeing thumbnails of season 5 here on YouTube where, and I won’t spoil, I saw something utterly baffling. And I definitely need to know how that happened.

Saying it could have been better is drastically overestimating the show...

Horak _tries_ to kill Catra. Gee, it's almost like they forgot, or ignored that he could siphon the oxygen from the room and suffocate her... See, this and so many other reasons is why the show sucks.
We're supposed to feel sorry for Catra after all she has done. Hordak is more redeemable since through out the entire Show, Hordak as never been the one doing any of the evil. He was in his lab the entire time while Shadow Weaver and Catra has been running everything.
This is "Catra's heart is not into it" is a terrible attempt for them to say "See?!" when the entire show is contrary to that, if they actually watched the show over again, they'd see that and that's what they'll terrified of.

I was really, really, REALLY hoping that Glimmer's change in character after becoming queen was due to some kind of subtle mind-control or mind-influence magic from ShadowWeaver... but no. It was all Glimmer. 100%, pure Glimmer proving she's as ready to be a queen as a newborn baby is ready to be a weightlifting champion.
