From my library: 20 volumes (plus an introduction volume) of primary sources about the US (and before it was the US) from the 1400s to the 1970s.

Just found this review of "The Annals of America." I saw the series for sale on eBay and have been trying to track down book series published by the Encyclopedia Britannica but didn't find much about them online. Thank you for showing these books and providing an overview; it has convinced me that I need to add this series to my collection.

Actually, there are 22 volumes (1987-2001.) A great and rare series. Thanks for this video.

There have been different editions: the first ended with 1968 and had 2 volumes of "conspectus" (summary). A later edition added a volume to 1973, then 1976, and then 1986. Some editions had an intro paperback, others dropped the conspectus vols. Interested folks may want to pay close attention when buying, though any set (even incomplete) is better than none.

As for whether they're to be deprecated for not being suited to modern "critical" perspectives, I'd argue the contrary: primary sources are valuable, to hear the real words written by the real people of the time. They're often FAR more introspective and abroad-minded than the modern "hot takes" which pass for criticism in our current (counter) culture.
