Fly On Vancouver

A wonderful (and rare!) airing of Fly On from the C-stage in Vancouver on 29 Sept 2017. This was played in honour of Chris's music teacher, who was in attendance tonight and who Chris thanks "for my entire f****** life".

My boyfriend Ricky passed away shortly after the release of this video (October 1st 2017, 2:08 AM Pacific time). He was a HUGE Coldplay fan. In fact, I only met him because of our mutual interest in Coldplay.

He was diagnosed with leukemia back in April of this year. He fought it as long as he could. The treatments ultimately became too much, and we had many scares of almost losing him because he was trying to fight it. He stopped getting treatments a few months back, and he was doing fine until this week when it came back.

We were supposed to go to the Coldplay shows on October 6th and October 8th this year. He was looking forward to it. Luckily, we had the chance to see Coldplay together last year at their Rose Bowl show, and also at a special performance at The Late Late Show with James Corden where Guy Berryman shook his hand. He was so thrilled over that experience.

Somehow, I feel like this song and this performance is meant for Ricky. The fact that Chris decided to play it live at this exact time makes it all the more special to me. Coldplay was Ricky's favorite band.

I kept seeing flocks of birds during this last week. And when I was on my way to see him this past Friday, I saw a flock that had to have had at least 100 birds in it. I'd never seen one so large before. The lyrics of this song are so powerful and so beautiful.

So, Ricky: fly on, fly through. Maybe one day, I'll fly next to you. I love you ❤❤❤

this is the most heartbreaking song. i just remember the zane lowe interview chris did and his reactions when listening to it. maybe this is too personal or weird to say but i'm genuinely glad that chris seems to be in a better place and that he had the courage to perform this live again.
