My dad's side of the family is from southwest Virginia. My grandpa on the other side of the family(mom's dad), old, retired, bored did a bunch of research on his family's history, found his great-great-great whatever grandpa died in the Revolutionary war, figured out what town in Northern Ireland we came from, etc. I was like 12 at the time, started asking my dad why he didn't know any of our lineage, dad's exact words "Son, I don't want to know how crooked that tree grew"
