My school had the reverse happen. We had 7 students with straight 4.00, but a military kid moved in from a school that went up to 4.3. So she won by default.

We had multiple people with over a 4.0 GPA. And not only that, the top 2 had the EXACT same GPA. To determine it, they brought attendance records into it, and my friend ended up becoming our Valedictorian because she was present 3 days more than my other friend who ended up becoming salutatorian.

Dude this reminds me of my whole graduating with honors situation! Basically my dad is in the military and I had been attending the same high school from sophomore year to graduation, my freshman year was in a separate state plus COVID, and had all of my credits to graduate, then I figured out the DAY BEFORE GRADUATION that I only needed a semester credit to graduate with magna cum laude, since I already had the required GPA for it, all because my high school freshman year had a fewer number of classes scheduled for the day. My mom was so pissed about it, that she talked with my principal about it and he explained that had it been caught earlier on, they would have still given me the credit and I would have had honors at graduation. But they ended up changing the process the year after I graduated so that this wouldn’t happen again. I think the worst part about all of this though, was the fact that I had the same guidance counselor all 3 years of attending that school and she never told me that I only needed a semester credit to get honors. My mom ended up ranting about it on Facebook though and made me my own handmade honors certificate with her and my dad’s signatures, so that made up for it lol.

same thing happened with my sister. her grades didn’t transfer well into our high school’s weighted GPA system so she ended up with a lower GPA than she deserved.

Is it a “we spent so much time together” award or a grade based award?

The school I attended had mostly 4 point classes, but there were some 5 point classes (all “honors” or AP classes were 5 point classes. A couple of high end science and math classes were also basically honors classes even without the title so they were 5 point classes, etc). Our valedictorian had a 5.0 GPA. The Salutatorian had 4.7 GPA because he decided to take drama one year as an elective instead of being an office aide or assistant which carried zero weight on the GPA.

One of the schools that cousins of mine attended had a pool for valedictorians (everyone that made a 4.0 or higher. There were some 5 point classes at their school too). They all wrote a speech and performed it in front of faculty and the other valedictorians. The faculty chose one speaker and the students chose the other speaker. I think they had something like 10-12 kids that got a 4.0 or higher. It definitely seemed more fair to honor and recognize everyone that worked hard for 4 years than just the one kid that chose to only take classes that would be worth the most points.

My high school had valedictorians (multiple, based on GPA), but they didn’t have to give a speech. They let people who wanted to give a speech audition for it, and honestly I think that’s a way better system. We got some very eloquent, heartfelt speeches from people who actually wanted to give them

My school had a whole drama surrounding the valedictorian title for my graduating year. Everyone knew who was going to be our valedictorian. For anonymity, let's call her Amy. "Amy" was smart, incredibly hard-working, worked her ass off for an above-4.0 GPA, and was generally a really nice girl on top of it all.

Well. Senior year rolls around, and about mid-way through when the graduation details were starting to come together, it comes out that the school was planning to name someone else valedictorian, and EVERYONE in our year was pissed. This other girl - let's call her "Ophelia" - was also smart and a hard worker, I won't deny her that, but she also WASN'T IN OUR YEAR. She was a junior graduating early, purely because she'd gotten approved to skip Spanish, since she knew a little bit of Russian. However, seeing as Amy's GPA was equal or higher, she was ACTUALLY a senior, AND Amy was FULLY FLUENT in MANDARIN, yet had not been allowed to skip Spanish.

Thankfully, the school caught wind that the seniors were on the verge of a riot over it, they backtracked and compromised - both of them got t be valedictorian. We still weren't *pleased*, but at least the proper valedictorian got her title and recognition.

My school was fucked they made a kid who had some learning difficulties the valedictorian despite not being near the top of the class and the actual class valedictorian was a girl he assaulted. We protested but they said they'd withhold our diplomas unless they accepted him as the valedictorian and showed up to graduation

I played football for my school theyd do these practice games were players from the same school would play against each other in two teams.
But for whatever reason the women that our school had as a reff would start telling players to swap sides if one side ever got a lead.

my class in high school did a “what person would be most likely to ____” sort of competition, and someone ran a campaign to be voted for “most person”

about two hours before the results were announced, a new rule was made that each student could only win one award

because he won all of them

My hs valedictorian was an evangelical xtian who included “some day, we’ll all die” in her speech.
She left out that she also believed porn had caused demons to haunt a house.
