Ah Duo is the current emperor's first [and greatest] love. Despite that she can't have children anymore, he never lost any love and respect for her which is why the current emperor wanted to pass the throne to Jinshi.

I admit I was pretty confused at first, but of course I later started reading the manga before they revealed his real age in the anime. But it seems like Jinshi knows that the current emperor is his father and Ah-Dou is his birth mother. But I think since he doesn't want to be in line to take over the throne, he doesn't care either way. And that's just my opinion. Especially when I found out in the novel he made it so he couldn't be next in line. Plus, its obvious about his feelings for Maomao and I think deep down he knows if he did become emperor, it'd be impossible to be with her.

Switching the babies actually makes some sense, at least then both babies would supposed be safer in some way. Shame a stupid mistake ruined a potentially happy childhood for both. It's sad that the dowager empress couldn't love her baby, but she didn't harm him and instead insured a loving home and took in her grandson that she could love.
I've read the wiki entry for the former emperor, messy stuff. He was a horrible person for harming those little girls, but he was a very traumatized person himself at the same time (thanks to his own poor excuse of a mother). Messy situation all around.

“Ka Zuigetsu” is from Japanese writing, if you follow the Chinese’s Pinyin, it’s “Huá Ruì Yuè” hence the nickname Yue from Ah Duo

That's why there was a plot to kill him which MaoMao save him from. Because he is the next in line.😊 my dad who is a history geek told that's what ancient Chinese did to choke the bloodline to take over the throne.

I am glad that JInshi isn't aiming for the royal power, since it honestly seems more trouble than it's worth.
So many stories like this simply say 'they wanted the crown" but can't really explain why all the death, intrigue, murder and loss of freedom/privacy is worth it.
Being rich and influential is a safer and more free option than being a confined and pressured heir.

I had a hunch that Jinshi is actually knew that lady Aa Duo is his mom, it's actually quite clear especially by his uncanny resemblance to her..
but he has a love-hate relationship with the Emperor because he knew he is his father but his real parents don't explain it at all, you know it's a complicated relationship.. and I'm agreed that the Emperor wants to make him the crown prince.
But as you know he is reluctant to be one..

and, .. placing Jinshi as someone responsible for the harem is actually a win win solution..

because, he can hide his identity and it can protect him from the attempts of assassinations..

as we know, that in the next volumes of the manga whenever he is in duty as a royal he get assassinations attempts😢 quite often

He is not The Emperor's Brother but his son.
He was swap at birth since The Emperor has guilt for what happened to his wife, Lady Ah Duo.

What i am most confused about is if he is any royal son, doesn't matter if its to the previous or current emperor, how is it no one knows who he is? He would have grown up in the same palace as he is overseeing currently, so people should know he isn't a eunuch at all. He's either the Emperor's son or his brother. Those are the only two logical conclusions based on what the anime as showed us anyways. Based on how they presented it, being the Emperor's son is far more likely. But... legally he's his brother because reasons I will not explain for spoiler reasons to avoid lets say a scandal.

If the Emperor has a son with his Empress that child will be Crown Prince. Being first born is not a guarantee of preference. The Emperor nominates the Crown Prince from all his male children if there is no prince via the Empress.

They kept swaping the babies back and back again for the funzies, by what Ah-Dou told us, since they were so similar. The late emperess did liked Jinshi more, but nothing yet (book 6) tells me that the emperess hated her own baby. It just happend that the emperess' baby died while in Ah-Dou's care (she didn't say anything about her lady-in-waiting so I don't think Ah-Dou suspects her). And when the baby died she was relived that jinshi was safe by the late emperess side but also sad that he couldn't seem as her son ever again, since Ah-Dou noticed that it was safer for Jinshi to be the now emperor younger brother.
