People like Elon only come about once a century or so. We need to fully avail of his ideas and engineering talent. I thought the Boring Company was a a facetious research project funded by hats, and couldn't possibly turn into anything real given the cost and regulatory obstacles. Turns out they are actually doing it. SpaceX was a similar story. Never underestimate what Elon and the people around him can do.

Never thought I'd be so interested in public transit outside of aviation. This is awesome

My brother helped with the "Big Dig" in Boston. I grew up on Boston's public transportation system. This is so damn cool.

Great talk! Great explanation especially for people who don’t know much about what the company is and just heard things from friends.

This is for Mars. Elon is practicing here on earth.

From a Civil Engineering stance, the entire idea is impractical. Every layer you go down, you need to practically double the support structures. Since the bores are mostly moving dirt, stability of the soil is also an issue. Even if it was solid rock, you're one minor quake from demolishing the entire sub-structure, and the second anything on the lower levels gets compromised you can look forward to the entire thing getting shut down to inspect and repair the damage. Then there's the COST. Holy hell, you know how much it even takes to dig a tunnel half a mile? Elon's personal tunnel is only about half a kilometer, and that thing is costing hundreds of millions, unless he's ignoring all safety concerns.

I watched this at 5:30 am after I woke up, what a boring way to start the day... 😂💕

I've turned everything up to 100% and I still have to lean my ear in to hear this audio. >< Somebody get the people recording this some new mics/mixing equipment! (Thanks for posting it though)

Edit: thankfully gets much better 15-16 minutes in. :D

He may think it’s “boring” to hear but I love listening to his speeches. I always walk away having learned something new.

funny when they talk about bricks and never mention that the brick between them are the bricks they are talking about.

Am i the only one that realizes the archaeological impacts of this? Not in a negative way, but in a positive way!
Imagine the finds that might be made as these tunnels are being dug all around the world.
Imagine when they start drilling these tunnels under Pompeii in Italy, Memphis in Egypt or Jerusalem..
I wouldnt be surprised if archaeology gets a second renissance of unexpected discoveries with this. Most major cities are built on sites that have been populated for many thousands of years, which in turn are built on top of ancient cities now buried. We could find entire whole buried cities.

Elon, can you start an audio/video production company that can make decent quality videos?
