I don't know as much about any problems with U.S. and Canada trade relations. But one thing I have seen is American companies exporting U.S. jobs to Mexico, putting U.S. citizens out of work. This happened under the Obama administration, for sure! Also the U.S. having had a growing trade deficit with China. This is what President Trump is trying to fix!
