Regarding the controversy of the Marilyn dress and how some people are saying ‘it doesn’t matter’

I’m a studying fashion historian and there is evidence to suggest that Marilyn intended for the dress to be hers alone. She had it custom fit to her exact proportions so much so that she was sewn into the dress. The dubbed ‘happy birthday’ dress was what she wore to sing to John F Kennedy in 1962, its design being an utter shock due to her insistence to the event planners that she would wear something more ‘elegant’ and ‘modest’ before revealing the sheer and flesh-colored marquisette fabric, with 2, 500 shimmering rhinestones sewn into it.

Of course Marilyn only sadly passed away less than 3 months later so we’ll never know if she wanted anyone else to wear her dress without her explicit consent.

Nevertheless it is a vital piece of clothing embedded in fashion history which Kim should not have ruined. What is also to note is that Bob Mackie the designer himself highly disapproved of Kim wearing the dress.

It would've been so iconic if Kim had recreated the Marilyn dress in her own skin color (the whole illusion was supposed to be that Marilyn looked like she was naked and wearing diamonds, so to make it in Kim's skin color would have had the same illusion.) If she made the dress in her own size she also wouldn't have had to wear all of that stiff looking shapewear underneath. Instead of bleaching her hair, she would've looked stunning with the classic Marilyn hairstyle in a brown or black shade, and then she could have made the look her own with nude lips. How did they screw it up so bad.

They did remake the Marilyn dress which makes it even more infuriating she didn't wear just that version throughout. She only wore the original for a few moments on the red carpet.
