Video description / background:
It's tuning season, everybody is getting their gear ready. The question that arises is "Do I have to sharpen the edges on my new board and do I have to wax my new board?". How did the board come out of the factory? What edge angle is best? Here's an example with a Korua Pencil 159. Let's dive in....

00:00 Don't be afraid to tune a new board!
01:18 Base grinder flaws: ripples in the base
02:02 Check the base bevel!
03:06 Side edge check with sharpie
03:37 Note on removing sidewall material
04:32 Do I need to remove some sidewall on my board?
05:12 Filing the edge
05:40 How did my board come out of the factory?
06:18 Did the factory do well?

I know you aren’t a review channel… but we would love to hear your thoughts on the Korua boards! Especially the Cafe racer!

Had my eye on Korua Cafe Racer, hope you'll be able to ride one of these and gives us some kind of review! Great video

After 20 years of tuning it is so nice to get confirmation as well as new information on tuning.
Question: what makes you choose 88°. I know the steeper the sharper. But what would be the draw back? I wouldn't think a single degree would dull that much faster. Plus if you already have a 1 degree bevel wouldn't that make it 87°? Just wanted to pick your brain.
Also, always pull the file in the direction you will ride primarily, right?

It would be awesome to get some more insight in the tuning that Gentemstick does on their edges. I have a couple that was simply crazy sharp new that needs tuning after last season. One of them seems to have a variable angle on the side edge which is very agressive under the back foot or am I mistaken? Got super interested about edge tuning when I experienced how well those edges gripped.

btw. TOKO makes a stone called "universal edge grinder" for removing case hardening. I heard you were mentioning a lot of people asking about where you got your stone.

Concise, informative - efficient :)

Do you have any experience with Deviation Works Snowboards? They have some interesting core compositions with purple heart and ash.

Hi Lars, for the average Joe, will we even notice if our edges are sharp or not, let alone at 88 or 89 degress and does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? What are the noticeable differences if any between a sharp edge and one from the factory that has been ridden for a week? Thank you, love your content. FYI I am riding a Burton Family Tree - Bottom Feeder.

As for side wall trimming, I know that the korua’s are all abs walls but what do you use for boards w/ urethane side walls like Ride boards??

Not sure if you can say this, but what's your opinion of the overall build quality now that these are made in China.

Hey, I just received my new board and the tail came with mildly stubborn rust, Idk how. I don’t have any shops in my city (heck the neighbour cities as well) also I’m not the best at tuning edges so I won’t touch a new board. I just couldn’t find a gummy stone so before it got worse I used sand paper to scrape the rust off carefully. Do you think my edges will be alright? There are still some left, very very thin but I can’t bring myself to force it anymore.

Hi, Lars🤙🏻 One of my boards is factory tuned at 88. What would happen if I tuned it to 89? Is this even possible? I've heard my only options are the 88-87.

xlnt video. did you happen to see that there may have been a little bit of 3d contouring in the nose of that board at all? a little spoon shape?

Hola Lars, what's the angle measuring tool name? (Still like you said usually its easy to feel if the file is on the same angle) I'm kinda loyal to 1 and 88, it does the job on most all situations.
Thnx !!

I find korua boards a bit fragile tbh, theyre notnas robust as my RIDE or K2 boards

I read a bunch of reviews that the shapes of Korua feel pretty good but the boards have very poor build quality. One guy even said he really liked how his board rode at first but it fell apart after 1 year. A brand to avoid for me.
