We attended the official unveiling of the new Skoda Superb in Prague.

The Superb is now in its third-generation and although it's first model was released back in 2001, the Superb name actually dates all the way back to 1934, which saw a six-cylinder Superb model wear the brand's badge.

So, what is the new model all about? Well, Skoda has focused on everything from technology to space, with Skoda's Head of Design, Josef Kaban, saying that the new model is "more coupe" with "more wheelbase", and that it's design is "trying to connect the car with history through symbolic design."

Summarising the new Superb's appeal, Skoda CEO, Winfried Vahland, said that "when you drive it, you immediately at home."

Made 100 per cent in the Czech-Republic, the Superb is now 75kg lighter and offers a 34 per cent improvement in fuel consumption. This significant improvement in efficiency is in part thanks to its sophisticated cylinder-on-demand technology - which Audi fans will know all about.

The highlight of the Superb's efficiency is its GreenLine model, emitting a mere 95g/km of CO2 and returning a claimed 74.6mpg, which for a car of its size is phenomenal. Other derivatives in the range include a 276bhp model and 4x4 offerings.

Skoda's "Simply Clever" moto is also at large in the new Superb, with a handy ice scraper mounted on the back of the fuel cap and an umbrella slotted into each front door. Skoda made a point of saying, "two umbrellas, that beats a Rolls Royce."

Practicality has improved over the previous model, with the boot now offering 625 litres, an improvement of 30 litres, and a max capacity of 1,760 litres when you fold the seats down. Tech highlights include Apple and Android compatibility as well as three-zone air-conditioning.

With 750,000 units of the second-generation model sold, Skoda is hoping to shift 25 per cent more of its latest-generation Superb.

The new Skoda Superb is coming to UK showrooms in summer 2015.
