NVivo 12 tutorial - Classifications and attributes

A quick guide or refresher on how to use NVivo. Demonstrated on NVivo 12 in Windows but could be quite useful for users of NVivo 11, 10 and 9 when you move onto this version, by choice or otherwise!

This clip reminds us how to set up attributes and classification in NVivo, which allows us to give our data (or file) additional information that we can use later to separate our coding.

Dear Billy, thanks for your video very good demonstration. You have defined the classification parameters with all interviews uploaded. Question, how to maintain the same classification structure for new interviews uploaded later?

Thank you for this video. One thing I am unable to work out is how to view all the data from one attribute? So if you have coded 7 people as "student" is it possible to see the data from all "students"?

I am using Nvivo12 Plus and I have longitudinal data. What's the best way to organize the data so I can compare data for participants at Time1 with Time 2?
what tools can I use to analyze different time and how would I use it in Nvivo 12?

Dear Billy, I have confronted with another question, how to select multiple options for one person within one category?

I guess this feature is most suitable for interviews and wouldnt be useful for focus group data right?

I am doing a content analysis and would like to analyze each instance of a term as an individual case with different classifications. Right now, I am only getting the individual files with multiple references in each file for the term I am looking at. Is there a way to create a case out of the paragraph surrounding a term, instead of the whole document being the case?

Thanks for this! So I am working with an excel that has both classifying fields and codable fields. (Nvivo 12 on MAC). I autocoded the data so that both the classifying columns and codable columns are linked to the case numbers. I am now trying to run a query on "Matric coding" to look at the intersection of two attributes from classifying columns only. However, the results in the node matrix don't seem to make sense (i.e the total is larger than what is actually present in the dataset), which makes me thing it is not doing what I'm intending to do. Would you know why that's the case? (Side note: I thought maybe it is because I am not asking it to look intersection of A "AND" B but I can't find an option to do that on Mac version of Nvivo 12.

Hi, I have a question, please. How do I see all data under one attribute, please? Thank you for your video!

Hi, just one question.
Do we need to have to all the transcripts uploaded before creating case classifications or can we add more transcripts later?

Why did the reference number change when you tied your files to the cases (at 1:37)?

can you give suggestion to my problem. I have collected data, where each participant has several type of documents (i.e;one participants have interview, drawings, photography). How do I put these as one case?

The very first step does not work for me in NVivo for Mac. There is no option for new case classification. My menu just has "no classification". NVivo is becoming a real mess. So many aspects no longer work. Can't even find and replace text in the Mac version.
