I like it the other way so that the cheese goes directly into the bowl or plate that I'm using.

I’m 61 and so amazed I didn’t know how to use this correctly. I was looking for an electric grater but after seeing your video I made cheesy bread today and grated the cheese so easily. Many thanks for such a simple hack yet one I was unaware of 🙏

This is how I've been using my box grater ever since I had major surgery on my upper back/neck a few years ago. It's also how I've taught my grandkids to use the grater - much more control. Love the shorter videos!! Thanks for sharing this method :)

make sure you lay a doubled up dish towel down so your countertops don't get damaged and to stabilize things.

This is one of those classic "smack me on the forehead" ideas! So simple, it never occurred to me... Thanks!

Why would this be easier. It'll be shifting side to side, which is far from ideal when the side lying flat is another grating side. When you hold it vertical, the way it was designed, the cheese is all in one place.. wherever you stand it. Why would having the cheese IN the grater be preferable. The whole point is you lift it and your cheese is grated into a nice neat pile. You get much more control with the intended grip.

This isn't a hack it's hacky. and by hacky I mean tacky just to be clear.

Thats fine but u have to make sure you don't scratch your bench top with the other side of the grater. Its also lots easier to grate hard things like cheddar if the base is facing down on something solid. However you decide to do it, still hurts like he'll if u grate a fingertip!

Hack my ass. It's just as difficult as doing it the old fashion way. Laying it down doesn't make it any easier. I tried both and always end up using it the normal way where I place it straight on the plate and grind it down.

Still takes 20 minutes to grate an 8 oz block and the last inch is soft from the warmth of your hand… if you can’t tell, I clearly searched cheese grater hacks while I’m irritably grating cheese 😂
