The timbre on the $30 snare, is actually crisper than on the $1000 one. Drumming is all about timbre!

A lot of well done tests recently heavily suggest that if you put good, decent heads on a cheap drum, it will sound near identical often to a way more expensive drum.

A cylinder holding two heads. Pro drummer for $50 yrs. I’ve got a collection. My Carl Palmer snare projects the most. Have a few various piccolos. My favorite was a gift from my Dad in 1972. A Ludwig standard. Each one has its own special place.

They all sounded great. Remo Ambassador heads also make a difference. I’ve used the Ambassador’s for almost 50 years and I also used Evans for a short time. That is just a matter of professional preference.
