It's terrifying to imagine a big cat strolling in and napping on a bed or couch, but I realize they are generally extremely reclusive, so it's also just so strange. As a Canadian wildlife enthusiast, it has about been drilled into me by now that I can expect NEVER to see a wild big cat of any kind, like the cougar (aka the Mountain Lion) discussed here. They cover large territories and can smell humans miles away. I have no idea if I would be frightened or transfixed if I ever did, somehow, catch a glimpse of one. Cougars are intimidating predators, the biggest cats of North America, but bears are the big predator I've really been taught to fear, since they are a bit more likely to get violent or physically involved with humans at all, really. Guess the truth is, if I ever manage to see a North American big cat, it'll serve as proof that it saw me first, wasn't one of the extremely rare ones that ambush humans, and decided to let me see it, for some very unusual reason of necessity. It's so strange loving wild animals-- The most iconic and powerful to experience are often also those who could injure and kill me, those I am least likely to ever see. Still I can't help deeply wanting to see them. I understand the woman snapping pictures of the cougar with a camera.
