Am an ex service man who has served in the British Forces for 12 years . I find it shocking and ashamed on how our British government has treated our brother in arms . He should of NOT I will repeat it again NOT of been sentenced in the first place . What kind of message does this send out to the rest of our brave brothers and sisters who are serving in active duties in war torn Muslim countries .We the British ppl should expect our service men & woman to be protected by our Government no matter what while on active duties over seas . By saying that I am & am sure millions of us are so glad he has been released & his safely home with his family .

One reason I left the Royal Marines was this case - the way in which the police, UK government and MOD handled it was absolutely disgusting in my view, and that of almost every serving soldier I came into contact with. If you as a polititian are going to send troops into operating environments as complex and tough as Afghanistan, they should be backed 100%, failure to do so undermines the credibility of UK forces.

He shot a dying insurgent, effectively putting the Taliban fighter out of his misery, finishing him off shortly before he would have died anyway. And for those of you out there who view this as the battlefield execution of a POW, don't kid yourself that someone who has taken a hit from an Apache cannon is going to survive - those rounds are designed to destroy TANKS.
