Whenever I seen footage of any Mellatron model (or play the synth patches in my S90XS with the 8-second cutoff), it almost always makes me think of how Rick Wakeman collaborated with David Biro trying to improve on its architecture and what a dragon is that the Birotron didn’t see the light of day. It might not have been a necessary instrument after polyphonic synthesizers hit the market, but I can imagine how much fun musicians like Rick would’ve had playing a tape playback instrument with looped 8-track tapes and adjustable attack & sustain.
