I finished this on the 3DS and therefore just bought the Japanese one from the Switch eshop while it was on sale. It's so nice to see so many people still interested in this series, we've been waiting for more English releases for so long!

In Chapter 2, Enter Jibanyan, the first 3 Yo-kai you meet will be auto-befriend, so there's no need to use food in this part.
And at 40:45, the Yo-kai you mentioned is Snartle - one of the strongest Yo-kai in 1. To meet Snarle, just step over the red light 5 times if I correct. In this way, Snartle is very strong. Its power increases with the rank of the watch, so Snartle will be weakest when the watch is at rank E.
Combining the two above, if you use Yo-kai Cam to get enough Holy Exporb, bring the Yo-kai already in your team to higher level, after that beat Snartle, you'll get him in early game. I don't know if YW 1 on Switch has a Yo-kai Cam or not :((.

Ngl, Yo-kai watch 1 and 2 was really dang fun when it came out. Basing many yo-kai on myths that already exist, or just on sudden behaviors that we cannot always explain was interesting, and the game mechanics were a perfect blend of automatic and active engagement. I wish I could afford it right now.

Can't believe it has already been 8 years since Yokai watch released in the west. The crazy thing is that I didn't even get to play the games until recently.

I haven't even finished the first game, and now I guess I have another reason to play it when the english release for the switch comes out if ever.
