What are gravitational waves and how are they detected? These ripples in space-time, sometimes caused by neutron stars colliding, were recently recorded in the groundbreaking LIGO-Virgo observation.

These discoveries are yet another reminder of how very little we actually know about our Universe. We've barely even begun to touch it.

GREAT video!
And yeah Albert Eistein is right in what he was talking about, now the science affirms and uses its theories in the studies
of beautiful UNIVERSE, etc..

Upcoming Telescopes like LSST, JWST, Euclid, EELT, TMT and Square Kilometer Array will definitely revolutionize the astronomy.

Very cool! Thanks! The words were going away a little too fast before I could read them all though...., so I had to keep pausing.
But really quick and informative lesson on this intriguing subject 🙏🏼

Can gravitational waves be experienced on earth? Could we be self aware of a ripple in the space/time continuum? Wow just wow, truly amazing.

Can u share some detailed information about it in a video

Thanks for explaining it so clearly 👍 One question - there must be background noise so were they able to calculate the S/N ratio as the gravity wave passed through the detector?

From a scientific standpoint this video was a complete waste of 1.5 minutes and might even include some false assumptions like neutron stars being "the most compact objects in the universe apart from black holes".
1) A giant black hole can actually have an average density lower than water. What you really mean is the singularity.
2) We are not yet certain that there are not denser forms of matter. Neutron stars might collapse even further into quark stars.

i thought you cant actually see gravity and its just an invisible force, so what do these waves mean?

The long-term challenge to the human race is dealing with the sun's expansion. If we can tolerate ourselves, can we put all our stuff into a spaceship and escape?

I would like some gravitational waves to keep as pets.
Everyone, please watch my little nature videos. There is no talking in them. Shhh!

Wish I had a cool name like Kip Thorne. But I'm a girl and my parents weren't very progressive.
