i once arrived on a boat-access only island with no inhabitants (it was a park managed by the Snuneymuxw Nation) and was walking along the path next to the beach when I happened upon a 60-something year old man playing one of these. As I walked past him he turned to me and asked what colour my eyes were and if I ever saw faeries. We ended up wandering around the island together and missed the last boat back to the mainland as the sun was setting, in early winter! Luckily the boatman noted we hadn't gotten back on and returned for us. Point is, this instrument is magical and i hope i happen upon another one soon.

Khaen is a traditional musical instrument of Laos and the Northeast (Isan) region of Thailand and is considered a symbol of the Lao ethnic group as well.
