many times I saw images of different tea pot shapes that should go with a certain type of tea (like flat ones should be used for puer, the very round ones for black/red teas, etc. It seems very complex. How do I determine whether the clay teapot is real or not? Is the surface supposed to be rough or smooth? Also it would be hard to tell whether it has been dyed with colour since I don't think the teaware store would allow us to test it.

Thank you for the great info! I made the mistake of buying a light color yixing teapot as my first and used to brew all kinds of tea in it. Is it possible to season it for one type of tea now or is it ruined?
